This is usually the second Samba arrangement I teach designed for primary school Wider Opportunities Classroom workshops but could be used with any group, even adults. It’s designed to be memorised and delivered to pupils with no previous drumming experience.
Perfect for a class to learn over a 4-6 week period.. The arrangement uses a song, a call, a main groove, a break and an optional extra Tamborim pattern.
The song is easy to learn and the arrangement has guidelines and words to help teachers and students to remember the rhythms.
It’s possible to teach 30 students with just 1 Repenique, 3 Surdo (Tom-Toms), 3 Caixa (Snare drums), 6 Agogo, 6 Tamborim and 6 Ganza.
A basic short midi version can be listened to at the bottom of the page. It only plays each section once, which of course you wouldn’t do, but hopefully it gives you an idea.
